On June 21, 2002 Funhog placed the Summer Solstice Letterbox at the
Caroline-Tuthill Preserve on Martha's Vineyard, Dukes County,
Massachusetts. The 1.3 mile loop winds through oak and pine woods, past
wetlands and salt marsh. Come to see the forest carpeted with Lady Slipper
orchids in early June.
To the trailhead: Coming from Edgartown there is a small parking turnout on
the North (right) side of the Edgartown-Vineyard Haven Road .5 mile past
the triangle intersection leading into Edgartown. There is a kiosk with
trail maps at the entrance to the preserve.
To the letterbox: At the fork go to port. Eventually, a sandbar will
traverse your course. Once you cross the bar count 25 yards to a forked
mast. To starboard you will find the letterbox anchored in a safe harbor
beneath uprooted timber. Stamp Ahoy!
